TOLKIEN READING DAY

Tolkien Reading Day

An annual event, launched by The Tolkien Society in 2003. The date was chosen in honour of the fall of Sauron, in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. These are the paperback versions I read in 1970. I read the first book because I saw Jack Michael had a copy in his office. A must read for all fantasy fans. The journey through the Mines of Moria where Gandalf fights the Balrog and the battel for Helms Deep may be some of the finest action writing you will ever encounter. Worth a second or tenth read.

QUAIL CORNERS

Yesterday, 25 Quail came into our yard to feed. Later they moved down the street, had a group meeting, and then decided to cross the street one at a time, following the laws set forth by the California DMV. Lynette and I have renamed the corner of South Foothill and Merlot - Quail Corners.
